Pacific Eider Expedition
Many collectors have most of the North American Species of Waterfowl, Including the King eider. However, of the 5 Subspecies of the Common Eider, the Pacific (V-Nigra) is one of the most difficult to obtain. The reason being is its accessability due to remote locations. That being said, we have been researching opportunities for the past 3-4 years with exploratory hunts in various Locations along the Aleutian Chain.
The 2009 season was a success. All hunters collected their Pacific Eiders during November. I will be offering this hunt to the Collectors that need to fill this void for 2010.
There will be 4 weeks of hunting from the first week of Nov. through the last week of Nov.
Hunt Weeks are as follows:
WEEK 1: Arrive from Anchorage Oct. 31, hunt Nov 1-6th Depart For Anchorage Nov 7.
WEEK 2: Arrive from Anchorage NOV. 7, hunt Nov 8-13th Depart For Anchorage Nov 14.
WEEK 3: Arrive from Anchorage NOV. 14, hunt Nov 13-20th Depart For Anchorage Nov
WEEK 4: Arrive from Anchorage NOV. 21, hunt Nov 22-27th Depart For Anchorage Nov 28.

This is predominately a hunt to collect Pacific Common Eider. There are tons Of Longtail (oldsquaw), and very few Harlequin. Nelson Lagoon has a few Scoters and other species such as Pacific Brant, etc. Most of them leave out in November Leaving only a few stragglers behind. This is a staging area for the Pacific Eider. Patarmigan hunting is available as well.
If you are looking for other species, this is not an area we would recommended. Large numbers of Unhuntable Emperor Geese, and Stellars Eider are available for viewing and Photo opportunity.
Hunting will begin the following morning of arrival. Methods of hunting will vary pending weather and circumstance. Nelson Lagoon is not for the faint at heart. It can be cold, windy, and down right nasty. Birds are taken from Decoy Rig weather permitting, and pass shootingalong the peninsulas and beaches pending wind direction.
