The Equipment
The Boats:
A variety of boats for the all the types of hunting we do. From the 18' Alweld aluminum sleds with jets to hunt puddlers and geese in the shallows to our 22' HewesCraft Sea Runner as a tender for our layout hunts.
There are three open water gunning boats, from 20' to 18'. These boats were created from high quality ocean hulls, like our SeaSport Sportsman. This boat was designed for the big waters we have in Alaska.
Layout Boats:
Since 2008 we have been offering layout boat hunts! Lake Bonneville layout boats are used for these hunts. Come have some fun with real in-your-face action!
Shore Blinds:
We spend some time gunning from shore out of portable blinds and Avery Ground Force layout blinds. The portability of the blinds is important, and allows us to change positions when the tide changes. Using a combination of boat blinds and shore blinds ensures a great hunt.
The Decoys:
The majority of our decoys are Greenhead Gear decoys rigged on long-lines. At last count we are at 34 dozen GHG duck decoys!
In the past years we have been proud to hunt over hand-carved Harlequin decoys created by Don Mintz. Don has created some great foamers for us over the years. We still have a few floating in the rig in Valdez.
During the 2009 season we also started using Capt Jeff Coats (aka Pitboss) Cork Harlequin decoys. These amazing decoys have already had well over 200 harlequin shot over them in their first season!
